OUR STORY

altered genius brewing co. is a craft brewery with production in Ambridge, PA. Considerable time and effort has been dedicated towards the rehabilitation of a former hot dog shoppe and barber school and its conversion into a 10bbl production facility and an inviting pub space. We selectively self-distribute and have our beer available at a few locations in the Pittsburgh area. Recently, we have opened a SECOND LOCATION (Trailside Taproom) at 258 Main Street, Imperial PA.
Our business is a collaboration of three families bringing you outstanding beer and a great environment in which you can enjoy that beer with family and friends.
Our trio of families include Donnie and Becky and their two boys, Mike and Shannon and their three girls, and Kerri and Ken and their two girls. We all value family and want to provide an environment that welcomes you and yours.
We hope to see you soon!
Daelyn Schellhaas, Owner & Brewer

With over 20 years of experience in the Food & Beverage industry, specializing in mixology, bartending, purchasing, and management, like a lot of people she decided to pivot her career in 2020. She began an apprenticeship in brewing, and a year later, she accepted an Assistant Brewer position with Altered Genius Brewing Company in Ambridge PA, becoming the first Black female commercial brewer in western Pennsylvania. After spending 3 years as a brewer and in sales and distribution she’s been welcomed to the team as a managing partner- making her the first Black female brewery owner in the state. In a billion-dollar industry that African American owners represent less than 1%, she hopes to bring her unique set of style and personality to the craft. She successfully completed her Master Brewers Certificate degree from eCornell, Cicerone & This spring hoping to complete her BJCP certified Beer Judge certification. For the past two years she was appointed as Co-Leader of the Pink Boots Society Pittsburgh Chapter, which aims to assist, inspire and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry.
Her aspirations in the beer industry focus on making craft beer more approachable and session able. She holds the belief that “if most people just sat down and shared a beer together, we’d realize we’re not all that different
Donnie & Mike, The Brewers

Donnie and Mike are the brewers at altered genius brewing co.
While working together as teachers in alternative education, they began the supposed hobby of brewing beer together in 2008. Their creativity and attention to detail were perfectly suited for the craft, and they make a wide variety of beer-styles. The hobby fostered a dream, that's now become reality.
Obviously, they are fortunate and thankful to have the support and commitment of their families, and friends in their efforts!
